Develop Impact Social Lab is a 5-month training program, committed to harnessing the power of technology for sustainable development and social empowerment. Through innovative education and hands-on projects, we train the next generation of technologists to understand and address the societal impacts of their work.

How It Works

Steps of Engagement

  1. Application and Selection: Submit your application and join a diverse group of change-makers. Women and people from marginlized communities or groups are encouraged to apply.
  2. Intensive Training: Participate in workshops and hands-on projects focused on developing your technical and leadership skills.
  3. Community Projects: Apply what you've learned to develop solutions that address local social challenges.


Who is eligible to apply for the Develop Impact Social Lab?

Eligible applicants include young technologists aged 18-29 who are currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from ICT, computer science, engineering, design, media or related fields. We strongly encourage applications from women and individuals from underrepresented groups. Applicants should be motivated to use technology for social change and have a moderate level of technical skills.

What does the application process involve?

The application process includes completing an online form where you'll provide personal information, educational background, professional experience, and answer questions related to your motivation and interest in technology for social impact. Additionally, you'll need to submit a statement of purpose and may be required to participate in an interview. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and successful candidates will be contacted for further engagement.

What kind of time commitment is required for participants?

The Develop Impact Social Lab is designed as a part-time program, requiring a commitment of approximately 4 hours per day. This schedule is intended to accommodate the needs of participants who may have other educational or professional engagements.

What can I expect to gain from the Develop Impact Social Lab?

Participants will gain comprehensive training in digital technologies coupled with a focus on social applications. You'll participate in workshops, hands-on projects, and community-based initiatives designed to enhance your technical skills, leadership abilities, and understanding of social impact. Additionally, the program offers networking opportunities with industry and civic leaders, which can lead to future career advancements.

What kind of financial support does the program offer to participants?

Participants in the Develop Impact Social Lab will receive a monthly stipend of $75 for the duration of the 5-month program to help cover basic expenses related to their participation. This stipend is part of our commitment to ensure that all participants can fully engage in the program without financial burden. Additionally, participants will work in teams to create a community project, which will receive $500 microgrant.
